The design and craftsmanship of unique, artistic, and functional woodwork is the passion that has consumed the majority of my adult life. I still remember the first piece of woodwork I created. The final product was hardly worth mention but I vividly remember working tirelessly in a dark basement utility room that I had temporarily converted into a workshop. I remember straining to complete the project under the insufficient light of a single bare light bulb. I remember fighting off the frustration from not having the proper tools or the knowledge to execute my vision, but during that first project my interest for the craft turned into an all consuming passion.
I then finished my last summer as a Forrest Fire Fighter and enrolled in a program to learn the art and craft of Timber-frame construction. I spent six months immersed in traditional woodwork in it's grandest scale. Immediately after the program's completion, unbeknownst to me I started the first part of what would become more than just my career.
I spent the next five years of my life consumed by the pursuit of knowledge and skill in my trade. When I wasn't timber framing I was reading about woodworking, and when I wasn't reading I was building side projects after hours and all through the night. When I look back on those years I'm surprised and proud of how my passion for the craft allowed me to learn so much, so quick. I worked my nine-to-five job building amazing timber-frame homes, and spent my free time building furniture for friends and family. Soon those early customers were asked by their friends and loved ones if I could build something for them, and that's when Innovative Woodworking Co. (IWCO) was born.
Seven years later my attention to detail and artistic nature are still the backbone of IWCO's success. Now I work out of an amazing woodworking studio built on my property outside of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The dark basement room has been replaced by a well equipped and inspiring shop. IWCO has enjoyed great success over the years and I have had the privilege to build hundreds of custom projects for many great people. I love my work and my customers love the result. Some of my customers have built a complete collection of my work, furnishing most of their house. Many other customers pay me the highest compliment of referring me to their friends. A lot of things have changed since that first project built in the dark basement, but my passion for the work and uncompromising craftsmanship continue to drive me and dictate the path my company follows to this day.
